Conference Environment Policy

The ITAC organisers recognise the importance of taking care of the environment and are aware of the environmental impact of holding an international conference.  We are committed to running the conference with a focus on reducing the impact on the environment by working closely with all partners to ensure environmentally friendly policies are in place. In order to achieve this we will aim to put the following initiatives in place to reduce our environmental impact:

Partnership working

  • We will work with the ITAC partners to explore options for minimising the environmental impact of the event by adopting best practices wherever possible
  • We will encourage conference calls and virtual meetings/talks where possible to reduce the need for national and international travel

Working with the venue and conference team

  • We will discuss with the venue their environmental policies and how we can make the conference as sustainable as possible
  • We will work with the venue throughout the planning and delivery of the conference to ensure minimum impact on the environment and encourage eco-friendly practices
  • Accommodation will be provided beside the conference venue to reduce conference participants’ travel during the 3 day event
  • Conference staff and volunteers will be trained on the conference environmental policy as part of their induction

Printing / Recycling

  • We will minimise waste using the 3R’s principles (Reduce, Re-use, Recycle) as much as possible. This will include materials such as paper, plastic cups & bottles, cans & tins, printer ink, exhibition materials and general waste
  • Marketing and promotional methods and general event planning will focus on the use of new media and electronic technology in order to in minimise the use of paper
  • The website will be used as the main communication channel for participants to minimise print and postage impact on the environment
  • Registration and booking confirmation will be done online to reduce use of paper
  • We will aim to use biodegradable materials for delegate bags and will re-use delegate badges

  • We will encourage delegates and contributors to consider the most environmentally friendly methods of travel and the use of public transport and shared transport wherever possible
  • Travel information will be sent to all delegates and contributors highlighting the most sustainable travel methods
  • The conference accommodation is within walking distance of the venue
